Apid’s Gaul Guide
It turns out that some Travian forum guides are written to appease moderators who’ve banned forum members for a set time. This is brilliant. Think of it like a teacher giving you extra homework instead of a weekend detention.
Introduction
Gauls are well-known for their phalanxes, double crannies, trappers, palisades (good durability and defence) and fast merchants and phalanxes which make them an excellent tribe for defence but most people play them as an offensive tribe rather than for their defensive needs. If you’ve never played Gaul before, you’ll probably be screaming out “what?” or “Why the heck would you play such fine a defensive tribe as an offensive one!” Well if you’re saying that right now, you’re about to have your questions answered.
Why am I writing this guide in the first place you ask me?
I’m writing this Gaul guide for two reasons:
- A 1 month ban is a long time
- I see so many Gaul players completely giving themselves up (doing whatever they tell you to) to the c69’s Gaul guide in a normal server when it clearly says in the beginning that it’s designed for speed server v3. I see so many Gauls trying to get their 666 before their puny 3 day Beginner’s Protection (BP) runs out which is hysterical to watch with all those Teutons waiting to turn them into nice farms while they’re trying to get their 666 without any phalanx raids (It’s practically impossible to get a 666 within 110 hrs in a normal server without outside help). Also I see so many Gauls deleting and cursing the guide just because a town hall seems like a big waste in a normal server and because they couldn’t get their second village within a couple of days of trying to get it thinking they’re really behind everyone else.
Starting your account
I advise you to start your account on a relatively new normal server(wait for at least a couple of days since if you start at the center, you’ll most likely have trouble finding an alliance since you’ll be at least a million, metaphorically, squares away from you especially if you choose it by what quadrant they’re in and also because it will usually be full of pre made alliances spawned quickly so that they border every quadrant enabling them to become excellent spies). Also when you’re naming your account and village, as it says in the c69’s guide, don’t put too promising or controversial names or rip off names from famous players eg. Your My Farm, 1337 pwner, RONIN PWNS, mind tricks.! although trying to be funny usually works eg Donutman, Icecweam, Emo Elmo.
The Happy Times of BP
On the first 3 days,do your quests on the peace branch(get rid of the dove after the quest as it would make it just a little bit more annoying for Teutons to find out whether you’re out of BP or not),and get yourself a 333 you ratio should look like 10 lumber:12 clay:4 iron:7 crop. Why swap iron with crop you ask me? No one, even Romans like iron and they’re the easiest to buy and crop being easiest to sell being needed by extreme negative cropped Teutons(they’re more common than you think) and hammer builders(well not in the beginning but from around mid-game).You get your 333(won’t take you long) and start building these after doing the quest:
lv 1 rally point
lv 1 barracks
3 phalanxes
lv 3 warehouse
and raid 2 pop villages with them to get to 666 gradually changing to 10:12:6:6 trading the excess for the needed and building more phalanxes if you still have excesses by now it should be day 5 already 2 days after BP during the 2 days after BP, it is highly unlikely getting attacked as Teutons won’t have that many clubs and they won’t be willing to risk them to your unbuilt trapper so just for being a Gaul, you scare them if you’re lucky enough to be not attacked, build the following:
lv 3 barracks
lv 5 academy
lv 3 blacksmith
lv 3 stable
and research TTs,everything done up to now should be assisted by phalanx raids as well as your production by now you would most likely be on day 7.
If you weren’t so lucky here’s what you should do:
Look at his profile and see if there’s anything interesting that you might like to use in your message and send him a message and please don’t make it turn out like this(this is an example of a bad message)
Me: Hi,could you stop farming me?
My noob Teuton farmer:You don’t have NAPs with me so no.
Me: Seems fair, hey do you play server 1?
My Noob Teuton Farmer:Yeah I’m hyper experienced in Travian.I’m in swat brbt (sorry but that’s what he said) ![]()
Me: LOL! That’s a frickin noob alliance!
My Noob Teuton farmer:I’d like to see you do better!
Me:I’m from one of the ronin wings(not no more, I don’t play s1 anymore)
My Noob Teuton Farmer: We pwned your *** noob didn’t we win the server?
Me:No, LW did get your info right, also darkdracon said SWAT didn’t even help them!
MNTF:*no response*
Anyways, that turned out bad and I deleted a second afterwards, just build a trapper and fix it regularly to make it a nuisance to farm you.
Okay,,just read one of those anti-farm guides for this…
Now raid with 3 or so TTs to build more TTs until you have 20-30 never raid Gauls as they’re more of a loss than profit as I explained earlier.Build a Hero’s mansion and your hero when you have your 10th TT. Research and build 5 pathfinders and scout Teutons for spearman,if they have them leave them and if they don’t massacre their clubs. Never defend unless there are cats and build your cranny so you lose no resources if you ever get attacked(hint: Build 1 lv 10 cranny and build lots of lv 1 crannies as that way, they’re easies to demolish and resource friendly) and rather, chase them back home and also build a lv 1 trapper.
Hint-Send small waves of 3 or so TTs to maximise full raids which maximises profit ![]()
Second Village
After you’ve got the hang of it, prepare for you second village(the time it takes for this is different for everyone). Here is the list of all that’s needed for it:
lv 5 MB
lv 10 residence
2000 CP
3 settlers(do note that you can build them before you have the CP)
If you don’t have the CP,build and upgrade resource fields and/or Academy as a town hall is a waste and a party costs nearly as much or more than a settler itself.
Settle near a 125% oases+ 9/15c on a 5 lumber, clay or normal village.
Moving on
Please Do Note that This is MY STYLE OF PLAY
It’s quite simple from now on, keep doing what you’ve been doing except get about 100 TTs or so on every village and fill the rest of crop with phalanxes, prepare for chief( big warehouse, granary, lv 5 rally point , an expansion slot) on the 1st villa and from the support, settle the 15/9c, build a palace from there and expand for more supports and with the last 2 expansion slots build 2 chiefs and settle the first slot and chief on the second slot from now on.
In your support and 1st villas you should have at least:
lv 5 rally point
lv 1/20 heroes mansion
lv 3 barracks
lv 10 in most fields
lv 20 Academy
lv 20 MP
lv 10 stable
lv 20 Trade Office
lv 20 residence
lv 5 all resource upgraders but bakery which should be 4 as the cost for lv 5 is ridiculous
Although most guides tell you to have 30~ scouts in your scout villa, I usually have full house which makes it extra convenient for me-your decision
Chiefing
Chiefing requires all skill, calculation, activeness and experience.
Here are what’s needed for it:
an offence capital with lots of mixed infantry and cavalry, nearby if you’re a noob
some back-up defence troops
lv 5 rally point, lv 20 aca, 100 TTs or so for escorts
Now you need at least 3 chiefs in the waiting to do this well. Here’s what you do:
First, send you clearer wave which hopefully will kill all his troops
If the chief’s from the same village as the clearer wave, you’re in luck, send your chief wave using the cata method(make multiple tabs and put it on the confirm screen and press ok close to the same second) but if you don’t have a chief available, then if it’s closer to the target, wait until the clearer wave’s troops have less time to land on the target than the chief(long wait…), and launch it about 1-5 seconds after it(pretty bad explanation)
for eg.
clearer wave lands on 15:48:28 pm and is a 12:00:00 trip
send your chief waves so that it lands on around 15:48:29 pm so that it doesn’t land before the clearer(in which case, your chief is dead unless somehow he was a noob and dodged) yet it doesn’t give him enough time to prepare and notice what’s going on.If it lands too early, hope that his troops are away or there were none, if it landed too late hope that no reinforcements came in that time and your 100 TTs were enough to conquer it.
if the chief is closer, send your chief wave first and launch your clearer so that it land 1-5 seconds before the chief so it’s same as being closer but other way around ![]()
These are not the most sufficient ways to chief but will do
. After you chiefed it, remember to send defences as it’s likely that it will be followed by an angry mob cataing you as destroying your own effort is better than feeding your enemy.
Summary:
Do quests and get 333+phalanx raids
get 666 and TTs
Raid with TTs building more, get hero and second village as a support village
Get 3rd village-offencive capital
Get more support villages and chiefs
Last minute Tip: TT hero FTW,haedsuans suck 1.3 attack per crop is not worth the resources also it’s cavalry def is useless as it is an offencive troop
