The Crop Production Problem
When upgrading any buildings or buying troops these require “a new member to your village” (or more than one). Some troop types eat more, and also as the level of building is upgraded then every so often the “number of members” is increased too.
Troops
Troops are normally the main problem for peoples WPH (wheat per hour) use. Some troops cost a lot to keep, for example the Roman Fire catapult costs a whole 6 WHP to keep in a village.
When building a troop type it you can check how much wheat it costs to maintain it, as shown below:

Buildings
The buildings you build also cost some WPH to maintain, if I am correct then wheat fields are the only exception until they reach level 5.
When building you can check how much wheat it costs to maintain, as shown below:

Total
You can easily view your total WHP and how much WHP you are using up, to check this look in the top right (as shown below). The first figure if how much wheat you are using up, the second is your income of wheat.

Negative Wheat
Negative wheat can be a problem if you “over build” troops, when your storage of wheat gets to 0 your troops will start to starve, this causes them to “die”, and also reinforcements in the village will die. However, neg. wheat isn’t sure a big problem as you can always supply the village from your other villages (or alliance members can), and also through the market place you can trade to bring more wheat in if you’re running low.
